Do’s and Don’ts for Mentors

Do’s

  • Fix regular meeting times and interact consistently
  • Assist with academic, personal, and career concerns
  • Coordinate with student welfare committees for financial or health-related support
  • Encourage participation in college activities and excursions
  • Maintain a positive and professional mentoring environment

Don’ts

  • Avoid calling students to your home
  • Do not conduct meetings outside of college premises
  • Do not interfere with examination processes
  • Refrain from using students for personal tasks
  • Avoid imposing your will—guide, don’t dictate
  • Always seek administrative approval for special activities

Responsibilities of the Mentor

  • Act as a dependable support system to improve a student’s self-esteem and resilience
  • Assist mentees in setting and achieving academic and career goals
  • Help students cope with professional course demands
  • Provide an empathetic ear and practical guidance in all situations
  • Liaise with faculty and parents to ensure overall student development

Responsibilities of the Mentee

  • Attend mentoring sessions regularly and on time
  • Maintain respect and professionalism in all mentor interactions
  • Follow guidance and implement strategies advised by the mentor
  • Share academic progress or personal concerns honestly
  • Participate actively in the mentoring process for personal growth
